The first article on the anti-cancer properties of Green tea in this Newsletter was in January 2002 and can still be seen on our web pages (click on Newsletter Articles).
The facts in that article are still very relevant - “in Japan there is only a 20% incidence of breast cancer compared to that in the UK” – “breast cancer patients drinking 5 cups of green tea a day had lower recurrence rates than those on less than 4 cups a day”.
The research on these anti-cancer properties has continued with 1216 research studies published in just the last 5 years. A review of the research on animals published in December 2016 reported that extracts from green tea had been shown to inhibit cancer development in “the mouth, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, colon, liver, pancreas, lung, bladder, prostate, mammary glands and skin” The studies on humans are not so clear-cut but nevertheless consistently show positive anti-cancer effects.
To get the maximum benefit from drinking green tea it needs to be left for about ten minutes to brew. I drink green tea every day like this but my wife does not like this so has grated root ginger in it and then finds the drink pleasant. Ginger is another anti-cancer food.
Why not get in the habit of drinking several cups of green tea every day
