Gentle Approach to Cancer

Are you eating your greens?

"Cruciferous Plants Protect Against Cancer". These words are from the title of a paper presented by Paul Talalay and Jed Fahey at the American Institute for Cancer Research 11th Annual Conference on Diet, Nutrition and Cancer in 2002.

Cruciferae, also known as Brassicae, include broccoli, cabbage, Brussel sprouts, watercress, kale and radish as well as other plants widely consumed in other parts of the world but not really known here.

The studies indicating the anti-cancer action of these plants are of two types. Population studies indicate that the greater the consumption of these vegetables the lower the incidence of cancer. Studies in animals have shown that particular substances found in cruciferous plants block the known cancer causing effects of many different chemicals.
